Tomoko Y Goodman
Born and raised in Kanagawa, Japan and a Toyo-Eiwa Women’s University graduate, Tomoko brings her expertise from high-end Tokyo real estate sales, small business consulting and a love for travel to insure the Colorado House experience is fun yet safe and rewarding. Fluent in both English and Japanese, Tomoko provides interpretation services as well as 24/7 Japanese support for Colorado House clients. Tomoko is a certified TOEFL teacher and holds Japanese real estate and accounting licenses. Tomoko also heads the Japan based branch office.
Samuel D Goodman
A Colorado native and an avid outdoorsman, Sam graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder before undertaking a 5 year journey teaching English throughout Asia. Some of his stops include teaching TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) in Singapore, Singapore and TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) in Tokyo, Japan. Sam worked three years in Kyoto, Japan teaching in rural elementary and junior high schools under the Japanese government backed, Japan Exchange and Teaching program (JET). Sam also taught business English for various corporate and government agencies including Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC), Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) and Shin-Nihon Sekiyu (Eneos). Now living back in Colorado, Sam has combined his international experience, teaching background and Colorado roots to form Colorado House International, an adventure tour company focused on eco-educational tours for the Japanese clientele in the Denver/Boulder area. Recent tours include a green building tour for Japanese architects and interior designers and a LOHAS tour for Japanese visitors interested in learning about eco-conscious companies and local governmental green policies. _About Colorado HouseColorado House organizes homestays, study tours and retreats for Japanese professionals interested in learning about green business practices, healthy lifestyles and local government sustainable policies.
Activities Our activities primarily take place in Boulder, Colorado birth place of LOHAS and mecca for the natural/organic food industry. We also arrange day tours in nearby Denver, an up-and-coming green city and the capital of the state. ![]() Why Colorado House We want our customers to feel as if Colorado is their second house, a place they can visit again and again. Mark was born in Ames, Iowa and grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He later moved to Colorado in 1970 where he earned a BS in Recreation and Park Management from the University of Northern Colorado. During and after University, Mark guided river tours through Dinosaur National Monument and Canyonlands National Park in Utah as well as the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Mark later became a river specialist at Colorado Outward Bound School. Mark currently teaches science at Bear Creak High School in Lakewood, Colorado and runs an outdoor environmental education program through the school called Senior Field Studies. His favorite things about Colorado are the outdoor recreation opportunities.
Natsumi ‘Nina’ Minagawa
Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Nina has lived and worked in the US since 1999 and brings a wealth of multi-cultural educational experience to our program. After completing her undergraduate degree at the Japan Women’s University in Tokyo, Nina studied English in England and was educated in Spanish Language and Culture in Spain. Since completing her Masters degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology at Naropa University, she has been working towards her Addictions Counselor certification (CAC-III), and currently facilitates drug and alcohol groups at the Addictions Recovery Center in Boulder. Her extensive clinical background includes her counseling work at the Boulder Safehouse, a local women’s shelter, and supervising parental visitations for the Safe Exchange Program. In addition to being a member of our clinical team, Nina also provides therapy and crisis intervention to high-risk adolescents at the Broadway Youth Shelter in Boulder. Her commitment to working with young adults with energetic enthusiasm and integrity makes her a valued member of our program.
Ted Hunter
Ted was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. After receiving a BS in Business Management from Metropolitan State College of Denver, Ted moved to Asia where he has resided for the last seven years. He has taught business English in Singapore, Thailand and Japan. Ted now is a International Trade Manager for the State of Missouri’s Japan Trade and Investment Office in Tokyo. Ted is also the Vice President of the American State Office Association of Japan (ASOA). His favorite things about Colorado are the variety of natural beauty and wildlife that allow for unrivaled recreational opportunities even within urban areas.
Alex Maciulaitis
Alex was born in Boulder, Colorado but keeps a special place in his heart from his three year experience in Tatebayashi, Japan. Alex holds a BA in History from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA and currently is the JET Program and MEXT Scholarship coordinator at the Conuslate-General of Japan in Houston, Texas. His favorite thing about Colorado are the wide range of political and social views yet the people tend to get along will despite their differences.
